Did you know that fabrics such as viscose, rayon, modal, lyocell and acetate that are made from man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCFs) all too often come at the expense of climate-critical forests?
Each year, more than 300 million trees are cut down, many from the most vital forest ecosystems, to create fabrics for things like t-shirts, dresses and home textiles. We know there’s better ways to create fabrics than felling the world’s Ancient and Endangered Forests.

Together, we transform outdated supply chains, reduce company risk, catalyze Next Generation Solutions, and engage in collective advocacy that advances forest conservation, and changes the world for the better.

Every year, landfills accumulate around 92 million tonnes of textile waste globally — a staggering amount by any calculation.
Meanwhile, a growing number of producers are using this waste to make man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCFs) from recycled textiles such as old cotton jeans and t-shirts otherwise destined for landfills. Innovative new technologies that draw on other alternative raw materials, such as agricultural waste left after the food harvest or microbial cellulose grown through fermentation, are being used to create new fabrics that are available now and ready to be scaled.
